Critically ill patients receiving ECMO and their collaborative teams require continuous monitoring of quality of care and accurate documentation. Upon completion of this module, the learner will be able to identify standard documentation expectations, such as arterial waveform, ECMO blood flow, circuit pressures, and interaction of patient and circuit temperatures during ECMO support. Additional understanding of determining adequate perfusion, quality improvement strategies, and assurance of quality of care.

At the completion of this course the learner will be able to: 

1.  Identify quality versus research projects.

2.  Interpret radiologic and laboratory values that identify ECMO support adequacy.

3.  Apply documentation principles in the pediatric ECMO population.

4.  Recognize data utilized for benchmarking in the ECMO patient population.

5.  Match terminology with definitions that assure quality of care in the pediatric ECMO patients.

This course should take approximately 50 minutes to complete. 

Per the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, a maximum of ten (10) SDCE I CEUs may be used for professional activity recertification within a three-year reporting cycle. Members may submit additional Category III CEU’s.
