The ECMO Pharmacology course offers a comprehensive understanding of drug management in patients undergoing Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) therapy. Participants will learn about the administration of critical medications, including anticoagulants, vasopressors, sedatives, and antibiotics, tailored specifically to ECMO patients' needs. The curriculum covers essential topics such as pharmacokinetics, drug interactions, and dosage adjustments in the ECMO context. Through interactive lectures, participants will acquire the necessary skills to optimize pharmacotherapy and ensure safe and effective patient care during ECMO management.

At the completion of this class the learner will be able to: 

1. Describe the differences between pharmacokinetics and phamacodynamics of medication. 

2.  Identify the factors that influence drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion on ECMO. 

3.  Recognize the potential for drug sequestration and circuit interactions. 

4.  Discuss the management of inotropes, vasopressors, sedatives, analgesics, and antibiotics. 

5.  Monitor pharmacologic agents involving patients on ECMO. 

6.  Identify gaps in current knowledge and research efforts aimed at improving pharmacologic care. 

This lesson should take approximately 50 minutes to complete.
