This course provides an in-depth introduction to the fundamental components of the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) circuit. Learners will examine the structural and functional characteristics of each component, including the materials used in their construction. Additionally, the module will address potential device-related complications and offer suggestions for their identification, triage, and management.

At the completion of this unit the learner will be able to:

1. Describe the mechanical components of an ECMO circuit and their function

2. Identify complications with the ECMO circuit that would jeopardize support and patient safety

3. List the indications for when circuit intervention is necessary to provide adequate mechanical support
