This module will cover various modes of extracorporeal support including veno-arterial (VA) ECMO, veno-venous (VV) ECMO, veno-artrial-venous (VAV) and veno-venous-arterial (VVA) ECMO, veno-pulmonary (VP) ECMO, as well as novel and congenital variations. Cannulation strategies for each mode of support as well as alternatives will be introduced to the learner.


At the completion of this course the learner will be able to:

1. Describe indications for VA, VV ECMO, and/or VP (veno-pulmonary) ECMO.

2. Describe cannulation strategies for VA and/or VV ECMO.

3. Describe the function of both VA and VV ECMO

4. Describe indications, cannulation strategies and the function of specialty and congenital variations in ECMO cannulation.
