Introduction to Acute Normovolemic Hemodilution (ANH) (BLM-101-09272020)

Description
This course provides an overview of the principles and practices of Acute Normovolemic Hemodilution (ANH). ANH may be considered as a blood management modality in both adult and congenital cardiac surgery. While ANH is not a new technique, recent research has associated its use with decreases in surgical bleeding and blood transfusions.

Instructor: Dave Fitzgerald, DHA, MPH, CCP

At the conclusion of this class the learner will be able to:

1. Describe the principles and purpose of ANH

2. Discuss the evidence and recommendations of ANH in cardiac surgical programs.

3. Identify the indications and contraindications of ANH

4. Describe the operating techniques in the harvest and re-infusion of ANH.

5. Describe how ANH fits into a multi-modal cardiac surgical blood management program.

Expected time to complete this course: 50 minutes
