This course discusses the indications, contraindications, complications and cannulation of VA ECMO. Using the patient interface diagrams the learner will describe the complicated body processes associated with this therapy. Finally, the learner will engage in a conversation to make a decision to put a patient on VA ECMO.


At the completion of this class the learner will be able to:


1. Describe the patient interface made as it relates to VA ECMO

2. State the indications and contraindications of VA ECMO

3. Review the femoral and central cannulation videos

4. Explain the concept of the mixing cloud
